1. Deadlines
The 2012 deadlines for Docs for Sale are 1 February, 1 March, 1 April, 1 May and 1 August and 15 September.
- 1 February: your film will be online on 1 March 2012
- 1 March: your film will be online on 1 April 2012
- 1 April: your film will be online on 1 May 2012
- 1 May: your film will be online on 1 June 2012
- 1 August: your film will be online on 1 September 2012
- 15 September: your film will be online in the beginning of November
2. Eligibility
All entries are submitted to a selection procedure.
- Only creative documentaries produced after 1 September 2011 are eligible for Docs for Sale 2012 in Amsterdam. All creative documentaries are eligible for the Docs for Sale online catalogue.
- Only English versions will be included in Docs for Sale. English voice-over and/or English dialogue, or in the original version with English subtitles.
- Non-fiction genres, such as nature documentaries, travelogues, corporate and informational films, are not eligible for selection.
3. Application
Application or selection for IDFA does not automatically mean that your film will be included in Docs for Sale.
In order to submit a documentary to Docs for Sale we need a complete entry. A complete entry consists of the following:
- A completely filled out and submitted entry form.
- Two stills from the film (2 landscape) for the webpage.
- One DVD of your documentary, which will be digitized for the screening facilities. For any further information on the criteria to be fulfilled by a DVD, see the FAQ.

Incomplete applications will not be considered! DVDs have to have been received by the office before the deadline. DVDs will not be returned and will be destroyed after digitization.
4. Fees
Fees will only be charged for documentaries selected for Docs for Sale.
Documentaries produced after September 2011
If your film is selected for Docs for Sale 2012, it will be included in the printed catalogue in Amsterdam as well as in the catalogue online. Your film will be put online in a secure environment, where potential buyers can view it all year long.
- Film in Docs for Sale - €250 (excl. 19% VAT)
- IDFA selected film in Docs for Sale - €210 (excl. 19% VAT)
Documentaries produced between 1 September 2010 and 1 September 2011
- Film in Docs for Sale online catalogue only - €150 (excl. 19% VAT)
Documentaries produced before 1 September 2010
- Back catalogue online
- 1-3 documentaries - €100 per film (excl. 19% VAT)
- From 4th and more - €50 per film (excl. 19% VAT)

5. Payment
As soon as your film has been selected for Docs for Sale you will receive an invoice with instructions on how to pay by credit card through a secure internet site. Please do not send cheques. We cannot guarantee your participation until we have received your payment.
