Besides disrupting the existing media landscape and financing models, the internet and digital media have given rise to never before seen forms of documentary storytelling. The FORUM has been offering new financing opportunities for digital documentary pioneers since 2008.
The new media documentary has become a serious player within the documentary landscape. Internet and digital media have offered filmmakers other techniques to tell their stories without being hindered by the existing conventions of film and television. On the other side of the spectrum, broadcasters and other financiers increasingly involve themselves in documentary projects with crossmedia elements.
The FORUM recognises the importance of cross-media documentary projects and offers a platform for interactive and innovative projects. To enhance in-depth discussion and potential co-productions, the selected cross-media projects are programmed in one Round Table pitch slot with potentially interested (new media) commissioning editors gathering around the table.
In recent years critically acclaimed projects such as Gaza/Sderot (see still), Prison Valley, From Zero - People Rebuilding Life After the Emergency and 24h Berlin have been pitched at the FORUM - many of which later premiered at DocLab, IDFA’s festival program for Digital Documentary Storytelling.
We are looking for:
- creative non-linear new media projects with an emphasis on interactivity
- projects that utilize the Internet as primary component or are developed with the Internet in mind
Documentary projects that make use of the Internet and other media to support the traditional linear documentary are NOT considered as cross-media projects.
