Please note: Only Dutch speaking participants are eligible for this workshop.
Twenty years ago, IDFA held the first IDFA-Mediafonds Workshop (previously known as IDFA Documentaire Workshop), aimed at discovering and fostering new documentary talent. Each year, in what has now grown into a complete seven-month course, aspiring documentary filmmakers learn to turn an original idea into a practical documentary film plan, ready to be made. The IDFA-Mediafonds Workshop is organized in cooperation with the Dutch Cultural Media Fund.
During IDFA, the participants will get the opportunity to present their film plans to broadcasters and producers. A jury of filmmakers and representatives of the Dutch broadcasters will assess the final versions of the film plans. This participant will receive the Completion Prize ( €125,000) for the most promising Film Plan of the IDFA-Mediafonds Workshop at the IDFA opening night. This prize is made available by the Dutch Cultural Media Fund.
Every year, IDFA presents the films that were made as a result of previous IDFA-Mediafonds Workshops. In IDFA 2011, these were Coffee, Cake & Cremetorium , The Man in Black and The Miracle of Weebosch . An average of 40 percent is realised into documentaries for the Dutch public broadcasters.
