From 15 - 20 June 2009, Pakhuis de Zwijger in the heart of Amsterdam was host to the second annual IDFAcademy Summer School. Twenty-two enthusiastic, driven young filmmakers gathered in this cultural hub to exchange ideas, make new contacts, learn more about their craft and have fun.
These young filmmakers formed 16 teams who, with the guidance and assistance of tutors, worked on developing and fine tuning their film plans. The program included a mix of individual sessions involving filmmakers and their tutors and also group seminars at which participants could offer advice and critique one anothers work. The program also hosted a series of lectures delivered by international experts who focused on their personal filmmaking expertise. These lectures included presentations on direction, production and editing.
On Tuesday and Thursday evening, we were fortunate enough to host two grand masters of Dutch documentary filmmaking. Peter Delpeut and Heddy Honigmann each gave a mini masterclass on their filmmaking technique. These events completed a week of creativity and inspiration.
