Partners, sponsors and Friends

Partners are crucial for a festival like IDFA. As the largest documentary film festival in the world, IDFA cannot exist without the support of Friends, Special Friends, and other donors. IDFA thanks all partners and Friends and looks back on a year with great partner events and a successful crowdfunding campaign for the new IDFA cinema in Vondelpark.

As we look back on another successful year of IDFA, we would like to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners and friends. IDFA uses a mix of financing sources to generate 75% of its own income, to create a solid financial foundation to minimize risks. In addition, IDFA is guided by a code of ethics and focuses on partnerships that are aligned with IDFA's priorities and core values. The support of partners and private donations were essential in making the 2022 edition of the festival a great success. We are proud to have had the opportunity to work with such outstanding partners who share our passion for promoting and celebrating the art of documentary filmmaking. Their dedication, creativity, and hard work have made it possible for us to deliver a diverse and compelling program to our audiences and industry professionals, and we could not have done it without them. Moreover, the generous support helped us to provide a platform for filmmakers from all over the world to showcase their work, connect with audiences, and engage in meaningful dialogue about the issues that matter most. We look forward to continuing our work together to promote and celebrate the art of documentary filmmaking for many years to come.

I support IDFA in highlighting the makers of unique documentary films. Without IDFA, these documentaries would either not be made or not become known to the general public.

By supporting and partnering with IDFA, we invite audiences and ourselves to envisage Europe in all its facets and in all its complexity; the history of Europe is made up of many stories told by many people with varying perspectives. These stories are essential for developing sentiments, a sense of belonging, but also for challenging where the status quo is not enough.

I think it is very important that we spread knowledge about the things that are amiss in the world. This forces people to think and enables change. In 2018, I increased my contribution to Special Friend+ in the field of education, because I specifically wanted to support IDFA's educational activities. They help teach young people that there is also a world outside social media and introduces them to socially critical stories.

IDFA has always been, and continues to be, the main festival for documentary films that show us what's going on in the world—and pushes the barriers of innovative and artistic cinema. Our partnership with the festival has felt logical from the start: topic-wise, this is exactly what we write about in our newspaper, both in the news and arts section. But it's more than that: IDFA is also a community, a social gathering that our readers from all over the country very much feel part of.
