Film screening followed by a conversation with Abdulaal Hussein as part of collaborative series with OneWorld, the magazine focused on journalism for justice. The discussion will be moderated by film historian and journalist Omar Larabi.
About The Last Shelter, Larabi says: “I do not know many movies that really show the migration routes in Western-Africa. Malian filmmaker Ousmane Samassekou centers the migrants themselves, resulting in intriguing stories. And do not forget about the touching close-ups, the grand sound design and the panoramic views of the callous surroundings.”
Abdulaal Hussein is a playwright and storyteller who fled Sudan around ten years ago. Last year he was detained in Lithuania for helping his sister get out of the hands of people smugglers.
The film is subtitled in English followed by a conversation in Dutch.
