Rewind & Play
New stories told using old material: from the rushes of a 1969 television interview, a fascinating double portrait emerges of jazz legend Thelonious Monk and the media coverage of his visit to Paris.
Explore the rich tapestry of untold narratives from Black history and jazz with an immersive program presented by DARKMATTER Collective and Het Documentaire Paviljoen. The event is split into two parts, offering an evening filled with sonic adventure and cultural exploration.
During the first part of our event called Rewind, we will screen Rewind & Play by acclaimed French-Senegalese director Alain Gomis. New stories told using old material: from the rushes of a 1969 television interview, a fascinating double portrait emerges of jazz legend Thelonious Monk and the media coverage of his visit to Paris. The screening will be followed by a spoken word performance by Euro-Caribbean multi-instrumentalist, artistic researcher and spoken-word artist Marc Alberto (they/them). Their work and activism dismantle colonial structures, by any means necessary, but often from knowledge, with craftsmanship and radical vulnerability.
