INSINGIRO HOSPITAL offers a penetrating picture of a hospital in Northwest Tanzania, one of the poorest areas in Africa, that can hardly look to the government or international relief organisations for aid. The hospital doctors employ a combination of western medicine and indigenous traditions. Malaria, meningitis and AIDS are assuming grave proportions. The way to the spreading of AIDS is further paved by insufficient education and a poignant shortage of people and means. By drawing a portrait of the fifteen-year-old Jessica, who was raped and appears to be HIV-infected, this documentary renders an image of the unequal battle that patients, doctors and their staff have to fight every day.
