Festival history

In English it is called an ‘amputee-devotee‘. Someone who feels attracted to people with one or more missing limbs. The Australian radio announcer Catherine Duncan has been missing an arm and a leg from birth. She is perplexed when she is surfing on the Internet and comes across Carol Davis’s website: ‘Amputees are beautiful! A website for amputees and their friends‘. Through this website, Duncan gets to know the amputee-devotees, men who adore her as a one-armed or one-legged person and who lust for her because of her stumps. In MY ONE-LEGGED DREAM LOVER, the flamboyant, facetious Duncan explores the wondrous world of the amputation fetishist. This world arouses contradictory feelings in her. On the one hand, Duncan has contended all her life with the constricting beauty ideals that reduce her to an aberrant freak. On the other hand, the idea to be desired exactly because of her handicapped body is also very tempting. On closer acquaintance with the world of amputees and their devotees, her feelings get complicated even further. As a matter of fact, she feels more at home among the crazy, lustful admirers - who, like her, deviate from the norm and have accepted their marginal position in life - than among her fellow amputees who have convened in the rigorous ‘American Coalition of Amputees‘ and who aspire to go through life as normally as possible.
