The Chilean Building
El edificio de los chilenos
Macarena Aguiló
Chile, Cuba, Netherlands, France
D-22 Alamar is a journey in search of the meaning of "home". In Cuba, Macarena and 60 other children shared an old building with 20 adults. It was a communitarian experiment devised by their parents, who returned to Chile to overthrow the Pinochet dictatorship. It is her journey back to a painful childhood. 20 years after leaving Cuba, she meets her former companions again. Following this reunion, Macarena revisits every house, detention center, castle and camp she inhabited during her childhood. She is looking for answers: what makes a house a home? What turns a home into a cold, inscrutable house?
