Invocación

In a mix of fictional stories and documentary, INVOCACIÓN links up different events in recent Argentinean history. Such as the bomb attack on the Israelite interest group AMAI on 18 July 1994 that killed 86 people, and the onset of dictatorship on 24 March 1976 and the 30,000 missing people that were the result. These political catastrophes are interwoven with fictional stories about kidnapped and missing people. The film starts with the reconstruction of a short film that three 12-year-old boys made in the spring of 1973 and that was later lost. And then there is the chance meeting between two dwarfs from a circus, Damián and Sonetchka, in the streets of Buenos Aires. Sonetchka is looking for her mother and Damián loses sight of her on every street corner. The stories take on a symbolic resonance when they are juxtaposed to accounts of the first crazy mothers, who claim that their daughters and sons had been kidnapped, tortured and killed, and that they have never found back their children’s children.With this blend of fiction and reconstruction, INVOCACIÓN explores the relationship between missing and remembering, forgetting and disappearing.In 1992, director Héctor Faver won the Joris Ivens Award with the documentary LA MEMORIA DEL AGUA. In recent years, he has produced several feature films. He made INVOCACIÓN in collaboration with Patrico Guzmán (EL PRIMER AÑO, LA CRUZ DEL SUR) and Fred Kelemen (VERHÄNGNIS, FROST, ABENDLAND).
