The Chimera of Heroes
In the jungle of Farmosa, Argentina, a white man is the leader of a group of the socially excluded Toba tribesmen. He has tought them to play rugby, creating the Aborigen Rugby Club, and to defend their dignity and their rights. Their goal is to play a match against professionals. Dominant society and the government constantly disrespect them, but winning just might be the team's best response. The coach primes them for the confrontation, with a strict but even hand. With enormous enthusiasm, he motivates them, encouraging teamwork and solidarity. Five fingers together make up a fist, he tells them. He displays a similar passion for his collection of armaments. He likes guns and rugby, but dislikes women. We follow him in various activities, playing with his dog, getting a foot massage from his wife - the only woman he does love. Then he explains that he used to bear a grudge against Jews and Indians, and that he was a racist, but at some point he decided to change. By setting up this team, he hopes to create unity through sports.
