Le temps détruit
Destroyed Time
Pierre Beuchot
France
1985
73 min
During the long months of the 'phoney war' three soldiers, Maurice Jaubert, the composer, Paul Nizan, the author, and Roger Beuchot, a working man and father of the director, wrote almost daily letters to their loved ones. All three were killed in action in the spring of 1940.
In le temps détruit Pierre Beuchot sketches an image of what they went through, based on the contents of their letters. In their own personal voice they write about the sadness of separation, hope, boredom, which in the course of events develops into an indictment against this horrible and awful waste of time. Archive images are interspersed with recent images of the locations where the events took place.
