Tchau Brasil
At first sight, adopting a foreign child seems to be a simple solution to two problems: a childless couple’s fondest dream is realised and a neglected child gets a new chance. In reality, however, it is not that simple. Both for the future parents and the child, an adoption is an emotional process, with joyful moments, but also with difficult choices. The parents are confronted with long waiting lists and often bizarre requirements imposed by the law. The child has to bid farewell to the country where he or she was born. In TCHAU BRASIL, a Dutch couple is being followed with a camera for two years, from the first open information meetings and the family screening up to the trip to Brazil, where they meet their almost four-year-old adopted daughter for the first time.
