Darf ich mal schreien
On the furniture department of the Swiss shopping centre Shoppyland, a wedding ceremony is taking place. For the occasion, the shopping paradise has been converted into a church. The bridal couple has won the first prize in the competition ‘Couple of the Year 1998‘, organised by Shoppyland. The blissful couple seem unconcerned about the fact that they are part of a cunning promotion stunt. The manager of Shoppyland is unable to prevent that bride and groom want to arrange their own marriage, going directly against his preparations that largely concentrated on Shoppyland. The party subsequently threatens to head for disaster. Filmmaker Jeanne Berthoud wonders what had got into the wedding couple to surrender a personal affair like marriage to commercial hands. With her film, she demonstrates how shopping centres have become the churches of our time, where impassive managers and dour numbers men hold sway.
