Le tombeau d'Alexandre
Le tombeau d' alexandre is a portrait of Russian filmmaker Alexandr Medvedkine, who died recently and who wasa personal friend of Marker's. But by taking Medvedkine's life as a point of departure, this film also writes a partof Russian history. Marker does so in the form of six fictional letters to his deceased colleague. He dwells on theimportant data in Russian history and mirrors them with the events from Medvedkine's life. In this way wesuccessively get to know Medvedkine as a seventeen?year?old boy during the revolution, as a twenty?year?oldred rider in the civil war, as a thirty?eight?year?old victim of Stalinist censorship, as a man of forty who ismaking war films and finally as an aged man who is a supporter of perestroika. This personal video letterincorporates fragments from Medvedkine's own work.
