Festival history

Floradorp is a garden village in Amsterdam, wedged between Kamperfoelie, Sneeuwbal and Flora roads in North Amsterdam. In popular speech the neighbourhood is also called ‘De Rimboe’ (the jungle), and not without reason. Unemployment figures are sky-high, around eighty percent of the breadwinners have no jobs, but they can afford remarkably high spending patterns. Youth gang ‘De Petjes’ spend their days wrecking bus stops, stealing garden gnomes and vandalising front gardens. In short: a quarter full of antisocial people, as they used to be called. Nowadays they are called Families with Extreme Problems.During the latest Dutch Film Festival KERSTMIS IN FLORADORP was awarded the Golden Calf for Best Long Documentary. René Roelofs (1953) has directed various documentaries, including a number of episodes for the VPRO television feature LOPENDE ZAKEN.
