Peter and Ben
A man walks through golden ferns. He lies down on the ground, looks up to the sky and tells us what he sees. "This is a peaceful way to spend the day." Following behind Peter, who has been living in voluntary seclusion in a remote valley in Wales for thirty years, a sheep plods through the ferns. Peter found the animal by the side of the road a few years ago. "I used to lead a peaceful, idyllic life until I found him," he smiles. Ben goes where Peter goes and behaves like a dog. They are an inseparable duo. Peter has left his flock and so has Ben. "Just the two of us. Dropouts." The camera registers their life together. Accelerated images of the valley at all hours of the day give us a feeling for the beauty and the isolation of the place. Ben is filmed taking a banana from the kitchen and worming itself into every room. Peter feels it is time for Ben to return to the flock. "The bond is very, very strong. But he's getting to be a bit of a handful."
