Reporters
Documentary filmmaker Raymond Depardon started his career as a press photographer. Later he established his own press agency Gamma. In reporters he follows two Gamma photographers for one month. They train their cameras on campaigning politicians and 'stars' from the world of showbiz. These people need the photographers just as badly as they hate the fact of being photographed at unexpected moments. By making the photographers the leitmotiv of his film, Depardon also provides an image of social life in Paris. The starting point of Reporters refers to that of direct cinema, but Depardon is continuously present to intervene as a cameraman or sound technician whenever he deems it necessary. In the film we see Jacques Chirac, Mireille Mathieu, Jean?Luc Godard, princess Caroline of Monaco, Richard Gere and others as they are 'caught' by the reporters.
