Het vooruitzicht

Documentary filmmaker Netty Rosenfeld met eye doctor Jan Kok for the first time when she was treated for cataract. In one of their increasingly personal conversations, Jan tells her that he is suffering from a rare form of cancer. Together, they decide to make a film about the final stages of his life. ‘It forces me to face reality’, Jan Kok says. With a combination of high spirits and level-headedness about the seriousness of his illness, Jan undergoes a number of critical operations and radiation treatments. Nevertheless he plans to visit Nepal again with his friend, where he stayed for a while to set up an eye clinic and train doctors. But as soon as the ever-optimistic Jan breaks down mentally, the final phase of his life commences.
