Verriegelte Zeit
In 1984 the 'incompetent' filmmaker Sibylle Schönemann from Potsdam wasarrested, detained, and expelled a year later by the East German authorities. In 1990she returned to her homeland with a camera crew to track those who informed on her, only to establish that there are no 'culprits'. The film eventually became a relievingsearch for that one non?existent person. Says Sibylle Schönemann: "My film asksquestions but gives few answers. My search was depressing but at the same time fullof suspense, comical and tragic, encouraging and relieving. It has resulted in a filmwhich to me signifies the end of a certain era in my life. For the viewer verriegeltezeit may be a thought provoking occurrance, a document of our times and of thisdouble divided country, no more and no less."Sibylle Schönemann is member of the jury IDFA 1995.
