Festival history

When the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague brought charges against the ultranationalistic leader of the Bosnian Serbs Radovan Karadzic in 1996, the slippery demagogue had to read it in the papers. Because although SFOR troops are still present in Bosnia, to this day they have not succeeded to apprehend this multiple war criminal. THE RECKONING is an account of the rise of the former psychiatrist and poet, who understood like nobody else how to appeal to archaic sentiments to stir up the Serbs against the Bosnian population of former Yugoslavia. Apart from critics, the film also introduces Karadzic’s mother, wife, brothers in arms, former colleagues and friends, making up a revealing portrait. Kevin Sim (1946) was born in Liverpool and is active as a documentary filmmaker and commentator. In recent years, he made lengthy trips across the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, which resulted in several films.
