Pölynimurikauppiaat
SALESMAN is a classic documentary about the door-to-door selling of Bibles. With this film, made in the late sixties, the brothers Albert en David Maysles set the tone not only for the direct cinema, but also for a long series of films about doorstep salesmen. For PÖLYNIMURIKAUPPIAAT director John Webster was undoubtedly influenced by SALESMAN. He leads us into the world of three door-to-door sellers of vacuum cleaners in the Finnish countryside. We are introduced to Kristiina, a middle-aged housewife. She sells an average of eight vacuum cleaners a week. Not surprisingly, she is the second best salesperson of vacuum cleaners in Finland. Kimmo, on the other hand, is a greenhorn. He repeatedly fails to palm something off on people. Heimo is the prototype of the shrewd salesman. His biggest dream is to own his own company one day.
