Festival history

Jascha Blume has been deaf from birth. In a crowded playground full of children playing soccer, he hears only a few subterranean sounds. Still, Jascha goes to an ordinary school two days a week to learn more and to keep in touch with people who can hear. An interpreter translates the lessons for him with sign language. The other three days of the week, Jascha goes to a school for deaf children. He does not have an easy time at the ordinary school, because he is the only deaf child there. He has one friend who has learned a little sign language. Director Leendert Pot, maker of films like DE KORENSLAG and ANNE ANDERS, talks with Jascha, with his hearing friend Benjamin, with a deaf girlfriend, with Jascha’s hearing mother and with various teachers from the two schools.
