A Sister’s Song
Can we ever really know what is in a loved one’s heart? This delicate family story centers on two sisters, Marina and Tatiana, who have hardly seen each other in years. At an early age, Tatiana decided to become a nun and broke off contact with her family. Marina, who is increasingly worried about her sister, travels from Israel to the convent in Greece to see Tatiana’s life with her own eyes.
In the closed world of the convent, the mystery surrounding Tatiana’s radical decisions in life only increases. What is the appeal of a life of obedience, of giving up your own free will? And what is the role of the Gerondas (Elder), whom Tatiana calls her father and who holds so much influence over the nuns?
“Your life is bigger than you think,” says Marina, as she tries to change her sister’s mind. The observing camera searches Tatiana’s face for her reasons, in a careful attempt to understand.
