The Fear Within
How does someone become a racist? The seventeen-year-old Andrew Pallett from the picturesque English town of St. Albans is brave enough to plainly ask himself this question in THE FEAR WITHIN. How is it possible that the same children he used to horse about with in primary school were abused and beaten up by him a few years later, for no other reason than that they were black or Asian? Earlier this year, the English paper reported that many teachers at the schools of St. Albans also entertain explicitly racist notions. In THE FEAR WITHIN, Andrew Pallett returns to his home town, interviews classmates, teachers, parents and neighbours about racism in St. Albans, and tries to find a cause for what he describes as a peculiar ‘ingrained fear‘.
