The final signal from Bill Ewasko’s cell phone was received on June 27, 2010. After that, nothing was ever heard from him again. Ewasko had disappeared three days earlier while hiking in Joshua Tree National Park in the US. Long after the police and his family gave up the search, armchair detectives and fellow hikers are still trying to find answers. Online, every possible theory is examined; offline, every path is explored.

This interactive documentary immerses the viewer in the proceedings of this community of sleuths, as they exchange forum messages, news items, and vlogs shot on location, searching for missing pieces of the puzzle in this inhospitable nature reserve. With each click on the content on offer here, the viewer picks up new crumbs of information.

Roaming around in this non-linear collection of fragments of hope, we discover how easy it is to get lost in the mystery. How to make sense of such a baffling case? How is it possible, in our time, to just disappear into thin air?
