Although its air force had successfully prevented a German invasion during the Battle of Brittain, the UK could only boast victories much later. At first the country had to make frantic efforts to involve the United States in the war. Documentaries were employed to persuade the neutral country with its resolutely isolationist drift to participate actively. London Can Take It (1940) demonstrates how heroic the inhabitants of London behave during the Blitz. The documentary had to look as neutral as possible. "I am a neutral reporter," someone says reassuringly.
