De onzichtbare werkelijkheid
Film and television pretend to show events fully and comprehensively, making it seem as if they convey the objective truth. That this is not necessarily the case is clear from this glance behind the scenes of the Dutch TV news. Reporter Gerri Eickhof is confronted with this dilemma every day. The film follows him to Srebrenica, where he has to make a series of reports. We see how the research is carried out, how the interviews are being prepared and how the editing takes place. We also see how the editorial staff of the news programme edits Eickhof’s report, and finally how the TV viewer gets to see it live on the air. In the end, it is clear that our perception of Srebrenica and the role of the perpetrators and the victims is largely determined by the media.
