Andrew and Jeremy Get Married
Jeremy and Andrew are both men who are sexually attracted to other men. Apart from this, they are as different as night and day. Jeremy is a 68-year-old retired teacher of English with refined tastes and a settled circle of friends, to whom sex means tenderness. Andrew is a 49-year-old bus driver declared unfit to work, who prefers to drink a beer for breakfast, who once got into bad ways through shady friends, and who associates sex with public toilets. Still, they want to marry each other, on May 1, 2004, when in London civil marriage will be legalised for couples of the same gender. This could be called a milestone in a country that not so long ago still relegated male love to illegality. The film closely follows the couple on their wedding day; in long flashbacks, we see what happens in the months leading up to the big day. Both men talk about their relationship with their families, how they accepted their sexual inclination, and how they met each other five years before. During a trip to Gay Pride in Palm Springs, California, their devotion, or the lack thereof, is put to the test. But their mutual affection nips all discord in the bud. So then they can solemnly put a ring around each other's finger.
