Die leere Mitte

For quite some time now, Berlin has the reputation of being the largest building excavation of Europe. Before the collapse of the Wall, the Potsdamer Platz was no man‘s land. This former border region is planned to become the city centre again, as it was before World War II. The transfer of the Bundestag to Berlin must consummate the renovation. Despite this extremely costly impulse, new walls appear to have been erected, those of racism, xenophobia and hatred. The centre will be the territory of international companies, whereas the inhabitants are driven to the suburbs. The documentary shows that the reconstruction of the German identity after the reunification is less successful than the new buildings in the centre would lead one to think, and that by no means the new face of the city smiles upon migrants and other minorities.
