Walter Steiner was a Swiss lumberjack who in the seventies belonged to the top-class ski jumpers of the world. Herzog used five cameramen and special cameras to be able to capture the spectacular jumps and give an indication of Steiner’s devotion. With each jump, he hovers between life and death. The game between life and death is a recurring theme in Herzog’s work.
