Festival history
The platinum blonde actress and singer Norma Jean Baker, a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), is primarily known as a sex symbol. The photograph in which she is pictured with a white dress that is blown up by the wind made many hearts beat faster and is still famous worldwide. However, the film MARILYN MONROE: BEYOND THE LEGEND does not concentrate on her physical qualities, neither does it dwell on her weaknesses or personal tragedies. Gene Feldman sheds light on her talents, especially those with respect to movie acting. Based on unique archival footage, extracts from her films and interviews with friends and colleagues (including Joshua Logan, her director for BUS STOP), the film portrays a remarkable woman, who was much more than just a pretty and alluring figure.
