Six Yards to Democracy

The film takes off from an incident in which 21 women were killed in a stampede at a rally where free sarees were to be distributed to poor women. Visiting their villages, we discover the deeper tragedy of their everyday lives. In a climate where feudal values prevail, their real needs are ignored by the politicians, who see them as mere votebanks and entice them with freebies. Today, women are beginning to question these attitudes and to demand better living conditions as a fundamental right.
