On 14th March 1960, the French freighter La Coubre exploded in the port of Havana. Cause: unknown. It turned out that the ship was carrying weapons for the rebel army. This seemingly coincidental event took place at a time of threats and trade embargos by the U.S. against the revolutionary Cuban government. At the funeral of the victims of the explosion, Fidel Castro announced that it had been an act of sabotage. Later on, he was proven right. SOBRE UN PRIMER COMBATE is an analysis of the sabotage, of its aims and consequences. The documentary includes archive footage, historical reconstructions, and interviews.
