In Lodz - a grimy textile town which is doomed to ruin - a couple and their two young children are forced to live in a single room in a dilapidated 19th century rented house. Janusz, the father, works nights as a busdriver due to lack of sleeping space. The family has been waiting for an appartment in a flat building for 15 years. They are living amongst people on the fringes of society, for whom alcohol is often the only possible escape from their dreary existence. The film was made within the framework of an exchange programme between students from the Polish filmschool in Lodz and the National Film and Television School in England.
