Strange Victory
Leo Hurwitz
United States
1948
A complex documentary, fiercely bringing up the phenomenon of discrimination and oppression. Hurwitz selected part of the images from archives on World War II. He recorded the rest himself, partly in documentary form, partly staged. The big production companies in the U.S.A. refused to release the film. Nevertheless, it has reached a large audience outside the commercial theatres in America and abroad.
