Fed up with male dominated jamaats (Councils), where they cant represent themselves, Sharifa and other poor rural Muslim women in South India set up their own councils in 2003. Dowry harrasment, domestic violence, divorce and desertion shall no longer be judge by men. Opposition from male clerics is fierce but women have resolved over 10,000 cases using homespun logic and everyday smarts to reclaim the Quran. The film offers a rare inside view of Muslim women empowering themselves.A historical reform movement is being born which is being led by Muslim women for justice within the framework of faith that is being betrayed by men.
