Festival history

is a documentary about six women that all bear the signs and memories of a music culture that has disappeared: the ladies' bands in Holland in the thirties. A period that is revivified by six vital, and for a part still musically active, 'Ladies of Music'. All six were born between 1905 and 1915, and had their own bands. They provided the years of crisis with zest, in clubs such as Heck's, De Kroon, Pschorr Atlanta, and Gaiety. They played music for which people queued for hours. The bands toured criss-cross through all of Europe.

is the story of these women's lives, playing music in the thirties, hard work, friendships, and the break in their careers which was caused by World War II. At the same time, it is a story about the enduring musical ambitions that caused several ladies to keep on playing.
