James Carville, nicknamed Ragin' Cajun, was the brain behind Bill Clinton's presidential election campaign. He invented the motto that would score many points for Clinton: 'time for a change'. The 'War Room' is the chamber in Little Rock, Arkansas, from where the campaign was contrived by Carville and his staff. Documentary-makers D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus were permitted to film in this room where they stayed for so long that their and especially their camera's presence was accepted obviously without any restrictions, as if they belonged to the furniture. THE WAR ROOM is a revealing portrait of both the campaign and the people who gave Clinton a leg up, in the best tradition of the cinéma-vérité.
