For many Americans film seems to be the most appropriate medium to come to grips with their traumas caused by the Vietnam war. Director Peter Davis investigates the effect of the war on the lives of common Americans. He also interviewed political leaders who were responsible for the decisions taken at the time of the war. Hearts and minds combines battlefield footage with fragments from Hollywood films that reveal the popular attitude towards Asian people and communism.
Kopple: "Hearts and minds painted an indelible picture of the conflict in Vietnam that shaped the way millions of people understood the war. Here is a documentary that not only reported but motivated people to change history."
