In the industrial film OVER GLAS GESPROKEN, the viewer gets an impression of the traditional craft of glassblowing. Commissioned by Royal Leerdam, Bert Haanstra started shooting a documentary about glass production of glass. One already sees the ingredients for another Haanstra documentary GLAS, which would bring him an Academy Award. The film fits the form of the industrial: the manufacturing process from raw material to end product. Starting with sand, we are taken through the blowing stages to the final glass objects. The art of the craftsman’s work, in contrast to more mechanized glassworks production methods, is beautifully visualised. A cup, a flower vase; the glowing glass is moulded into shape by mouth and hand.
