Festival history

DEL OLVIDO AL NO ME ACUERDO is a portrait of the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo, who lived from 1918 to 1986. The film does not concentrate on the author and his work, but rather on the man Juan Rulfo, seen through the eyes of those who knew him. These are elderly men and women who, sitting on a bench in front of their house or strolling through the arid and desolate Mexican landscape, dredge up memories of yesteryear. A woman looks for the exact place in a town where she, as a young girl, was overwhelmed by Rulfo’s charms. A man tells about the place where Rulfo often stayed, but there is not much to tell; the memories have faded, the details are gone. Fragments from texts and love songs resurface and for a brief moment take the people back in time. And so the film is predominantly a story about the memory. Its style is germane: fragmentary and at times confusing, next crystal-clear, and then again dissolving into the blur of memory.
