In the centre of Hollywood, on Franklin Avenue, there is a hotel where movie stars used to stay, but which is now only making hay of past glory. Celebrities no longer go there, the new guests are dreamers from everywhere who pursue a career in Hollywood ("I want to see myself in Technicolor"). For most of them this dream will forever remain an illusion. They hardly manage to keep afloat by doing parts as extras in Hollywood films. When Bang Carlsen was shooting his film a number of them were extras in Martin Scorsese's RAGING BULL. HOTEL OF THE STARS examines the wide gap between dream and reality, poverty and success in American society.
