‘Me and my homies, David and Paul, we’re going to Cambodia. We’ll see the sights, visit family, have some fun.’ This is how 24-year-old Mike sees his upcoming journey to his native country. As a small boy, he and his mother fled the country when Vietnam invaded. His father and his younger brother, Nang stayed behind in a country terrorised both by war and Pol Pot‘s extremely deadly regime. Now, he will meet his father and brother for the first time. His carefree enthusiasm is dampened considerably when his mother tells him that his father and brother do not live together. Nang was raised by an aunt. In Cambodia, more revelations follow. Mike tries to enjoy the time he has with his family, but he has many unanswered questions. The other two boys also have difficulties concealing their uneasiness towards their unknown relatives. They become aware of long-nourished expectations and cultural differences.
