You Made Me Love You
Choreographer Miranda Pennell is specialised in film and dance. Still, it would be incorrect to label her work as "dance films." In 21 dancers are lined up in front of the camera. They are all eyes. They follow the camera as it moves to the right or left at arbitrary moments. If the camera is the mouse, the dancers are cats that want to catch it with their looks. Unaware of their own eagerness, the elegant guys and gals resolutely follow their prey. As soon as the ones in front react to the camera movement a fraction of a second too late, the ones in the back seize their opportunity to get a more prominent position. There is no escape. As a substitute for the camera, the viewer sits petrified in his seat, which suddenly feels like a mousetrap.
