They Caught the Ferry

Festival history

A motorcyclist with his girlfriend riding pillion makes a daredevil attempt to get to the Nyborg ferry in time. On narrow country roads he recklessly passes cowherds and carts. When he is forced off the road by an armoured black car driven by a man with a sarcastic smile, the personification of Death, the ride draws to a dramatic close. Not the ferry to Nyborg is awaiting the unlucky couple, but a one-way trip with Charon across the River of Death. Carl. Th. Dreyer's adaptation of the myth De nåede færgen by writer and Nobel Prize winner Johannes V. Jensen is still an impressive film thanks to its thrilling dramatic structure and its soundtrack, which plays an important role. The film was commissioned by an organisation for road safety.
