LA MEMORIA DEL AGUA is the story of Joseph Gruferman whose grave was desecrated two years ago. Two pasts flow together: memories of his early years when his mother was the central figure in his life, and memories of his later life with a wife and a daughter, a young theatre student who is looking for her identity in France. Hector Faver's reason for making this film were the events that took place on the Jewish cemetery of Carpentras in the south of France in May 1990, as well as personal recollections of his own family, the Lombardic legend Marguerite Yourcenar talks about in Souvenirs Pieux in which love overcomes separation by physical death, and the study of water as carrier of memories. LA MEMORIA DEL AGUA contains documentary images of concentration camps, provided by the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, footage from a Spanish film library, and pictures from the France-Presse archives.
