This documentary is one in a series of eight shorts about the West Indies, made by the Polygoon/Profilti film factory. Apart from newsreels, the company also produced films about diverse topics relevant to The Netherlands. This episode is a narrative about the way of life of the inhabitants of the jungle, both Indians and Bushmen, and their relationship with nature. The voice-over speaks of the activities of the jungle dwellers, how they spend their days, for example, by growing cassavas and tapping rubber. By current standards, it is a rather outdated document with a Euro-centric commentary, but also is instructive, showing us how the Dutch were informed about the overseas territories.
