Om de bocht van Het Spaarne
In the early twenties Dutch architect Van Loghem, an adherent of the 'garden-city' concept, was commissioned to realize his ideas in Heemstede (Haarlem now). Analogous to the concept, his urban development project was named 'Tuinwijk' (Garden City). In 1989, Tuinwijk - in a terrible state of repair - got a preservation order from the Ministery of Welfare, Health and Cultural Affairs. One year later a full-scale restoration project started in three streets, wich caused both gratitude and conflicts among the inhabitants. Within the framework of the production workshop 1991, five directors got the assignment to make a short film about Tuinwijk. The result is a kaleidoscopic documentary with one part evoking the other. This film is the result of the IDFA-production workshop 1991 under supervision of Hans Keller.
